Thursday 17th March – ski ***** Bernex – sunny and blue :) ( 38.29 miles, 42.15 kts )

Got away with a night in the no campers car park at Bernex and woke to clear blue skies so were up early and at the ticket office at 9.25, buying 5 hours for 47 Euros for two:) Heading up the Le Pre Richard we discovered another lovely little bowl where the learners could play with two restaurants, we decided to make the most of the lower slopes to start with before the sun melted the perfect pistes! The long L’Ugine blue back to the station was stunning with Mag loving every turn, far far better than Thollon! – I tried again to video this run but again sadly my camera just seized up:( We loved it so much we did it again, then Mag did it again while I scared myself on the super-fast La - Lanche red! It was then over to the Le Mont Baron button first trying the slalom red run ( Le Strade ) and then the L’Arete through the narrow boarder cross track to the bottom of the Combat chair and onto the fantastic tree lined Le Talot blue passing a snowy mountain stream to Malpasset the village we walked to yesterday, then up a short button and back to the station. We had a run down the little used Les Pellys red before heading back over to the Combat chair skiing the blue over to the Pelluax chair. This is the far left of the resort right behind Thollon and takes you up to the resorts highest point – the Pointe de Pelluaz at 1912m:) and what an amazing spot this was!!! The views around 360 degrees were out of this world with Lac Leman and the Jura mountains one side and the high Alps including Mont Blanc and Roc d’ Enfer the other – it was yet another pinch yourself moment! This was also the paraglider take-off and there was a steady stream of flyers making the most of the crystal skies. There was a huge area of mogel black runs off the top but we chose the narrow, fast red – the Pelluaz back to the lift, loving it so much we did it again! Back down to the bottom, me as fast as possible and Mag doing 289 turns – sadly she counted them!!!
We then spent the rest of our 5 hours just enjoying the lovely runs, we stopped at the top of Pre Richard to read the information boards and have a coffee from Mags flask, I also had my best crash of the holiday when I tried the un-pisted Le Petit Combet and ended up losing both skis sliding down 50m on my back, covering my poor old camera in snow – no wonder it’s playing me up! I spent 10 minutes recovering my gear, walking back up was a nightmare but a nice French man helped me recover one of my skis and I managed to ski down to Mag to dry the camera out!
With time running out we headed to the top of the resort before sking a short way down the red and then walking up to the Table d’orientation the perfect spot for a picnic:) After taking loads of pics, including some funny selfies with Maggies phone we settled down to our delicious rolls only to be joined by loads of Alpine Chuffs! They landed really close and Mag was throwing little pieces of bread which they were catching in their beaks!!! There was a non-stop stream of skiers walking up, also several crazy people on sledges and a class of 13 youngsters in ski school snaking down the red! With coats off and no breeze we enjoy an hour reading our books before heading down, we could have skied longer even though our tickets had run out because the Pelluaz chair had no barrier:) but we were knackered so headed back to the van. This has been by far the best day of the holiday so far, perfect weather, perfect pistes, perfect scenery just can’t fault it!!!
Then back at the van it was chairs out, kettle on and enjoy the warm weather only going in when the sun went down and what a top sun set it was too perfect way to end a perfect day – fingers crossed for the same tomorrow!
